Female boxer to defend her ABU title

Smangele Hadebe boasts her confidence in defending her title as she will be going against professional boxer Stumai Muki.

As Women’s Month comes to a close, African Boxing Union champ Smangele Hadebe will be defending her African Boxing Union Flyweight title, which she secured early this year.

Hadebe, colloquially known as ‘Smash’, for her matchless boxing talents, will be going head-to-head with Stumai Muki from Tanzania on August 25 at the ESPN headquarters.

The Walkerville female boxer confidently stated that she was ready for her big fight and defending her title after many hours of preparation.

Hadebe said she feels good about the fight and confident about the title not leaving South Africa.

“I’m thrilled to be the main fight on the evening and to be seeing women’s boxing improving. I’m also appreciative to ESPN for doing a female tournament. It’s big exposure for us as ESPN has lots of views worldwide.

I believe this will motivate other female boxers to work harder to also be on one of the biggest stages in the country,” she explained.

She reiterated that her fighting strongly advocates against the scourge of abuse of women and children in the country.

“It’s still happening, so let’s be the voice for the voiceless. As women, we should empower each other. I will be having women who have been in the same situation as me watching the fight live, this shows that speaking out was a good thing for other women to also start voicing out and supporting me,” Hadebe said.

She positively said she has put in so much hard work to be where she is and that she will still be the ABU champ after August 25.

She thanked ESPN for the opportunity, her manager Colleen McAusland and her sponsors, Drivetrain, Midvaal Municipality and Brawlgear.

Tune in on Channel 218 on August 25 from 19:00 to catch her fight.
