WATCH: JIWA donates over 300 blankets

The community of the informal settlement in Ophirton thanked JIWA for blankets.

Johannesburg Indian Women Association (JIWA) chased away the cold on May 28 when they donated over 300 blankets to an informal settlement in Ophirton.

Scores of residents came out to receive the blankets. Elize Baker, the founder of Turffontein’s Christway Religious and Social Services, was also there to assist JIWA with the logistics.

Sheila Bhana, from JIWA, said they always have a Diwali ball every year to initiate and fund plans to help the disadvantaged. These blankets came out of that initiative.

Bonisile Diale thanked JIWA for helping them.

“It is becoming cold now and we thank JIWA for the blankets.”

JIWA is a voluntary, registered non-profit organisation. It consists of members who generously donate their time, effort and money to the organisation and its chosen initiatives.

JIWA’s work is made possible thanks to corporate donations and private sponsorships. It believes that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world.

Through advocacy and outreach activities, the JIWA members work tirelessly to contribute their part to the greater good.
