Body of a baby found in Bellavista

Booysens SAPS confirmed the discovery of the body of a baby in a bag in Bellavista on April 22.

An inquest docket has been opened at the station. Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik said they still have to wait for the post-mortem to verify the circumstances of the death and the age.

“According to information, the community member saw the bag on April 18 but thought it was a dog that was dumped. They only checked it on April 22 and realise it was a baby. They phoned us and our members were at the scene.

“An inquest docket was opened and will be rectified or changed at a later stage as soon as we have the post-mortem sometime next week,” she said.
