Take part in fighting gender-based violence

Men must raise their hands and be counted in fighting GBV.

Active Youngins Foundation (AYF) hosted another men’s conference to challenge gender-based violence (GBV) in Ward 56 on April 8.

Following the pandemic of GBV incidents that are torturing the community’s consciousness and betraying the constitutional order, AYF hosted its second men’s conference. The aim was to challenge gender stereotypes and norms, thereby creating dialogues on GBV drivers and interventions.

The foundation’s secretary-general, Jimmy Ntuli, said GBV is a pandemic that affects everyone; however, statistics have proven that men are the most perpetrators of GBV.

“We want all men to be part of these dialogues and take ownership of their relationships,” said Ntuli.

These dialogues are gaining huge momentum and the organisation is going to have its first launch of the Brother’s Keeper programme to empower and educate men against GBV.

“We want to call upon all our GBV stakeholders, partners and individuals to come on board to fight this surge that is killing our society.

“We are moving to the bigger dialogue and invite different departments mostly involved on GBV on the law side, such as SAPS, IPID, NPA and Department of Health, soon,” he said.
