Glenanda Clinic pledges to serve with a smile

The pledge stated they will always serve the community with a smile and improve the service at the clinic.

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) launched the Region F Serve with a Smile campaign at the Glenanda Clinic on March 30.

The campaign started in 2019 at the Pholosong Hospital under the leadership of Dr A Mthunzi.

The programme aims to improve service delivery at all clinics in Gauteng to ensure patients aren’t denied the basic human right of access to medical care itself.

It is split into three stages, with the first one being the induction of the programme, and then it will be the signing of a pledge to ensure all workers commit to better their service.

The last stage is a hall of fame where workers’ names will be added according to customers’ satisfaction.

The event at Glenanda Clinic was attended by chief whip of CoJ Tyrell Meyers, MMC for Health in CoJ Ashley Sauls, as well as other dignitaries.

Ewan Botha, communications officer for the office of the MMC for health and social development, said: “The MMC was shown around the facility and could understand some challenges and frustrations facing the clinic, with the biggest issue being the physical size of the facility being far too small to manage the number of patients being received, as well as the amount of space each staff member can use.”

Another complaint that was noted was the lack of an online filing system, with data capturing and filing being a cumbersome process.

The nurses and other staff members, along with the MMC, signed a pledge to serve with care, love, respect, dignity and without discrimination, to provide privacy and to protect the institution. Peppy Mmatli, the acting director for district health service development, started the signing of the pledge by employees.

The pledge stated they will always serve the community with a smile and improve the service at the clinic.
The manager of the clinic, Lerato Madlala, handed out pins to the employees to help with the ‘serve with a smile’ promise.
