WATCH: Protest brings service at Xavier, Alberton Licensing Department to a halt

Ongoing protests by the National Driving School Association of South Africa (NDSASA) have led to service interruptions at licensing centres across Gauteng.

The Xavier Junction License and Testing Centre and Alberton Licensing Department are temporarily closed due to protest action by the National Driving School Association of South Africa (NDSASA).

NDSASA said the protest is to demand the suspension of the NaTIS online booking system failing the people of Gauteng.

“The department has decided to change its online booking system on Friday, February 18 without consulting its stakeholder, which resulted in driving schools not being able to reserve slots for the people under their schools,” said NDSASA in an official statement.

Officers from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) are at the Alberton Licensing Department to monitor the situation.

An update will follow as soon as more information becomes available.

Residents are advised to avoid the area.
