Bellavista family lives in a water-logged flat

"No one is willing to help us," said Magwaza.

Rachel Magwaza, a single mother of two who lives in Bellavista, is livid after her entire flat is gradually flooded by water from the flat above hers.

Now there are also foreign objects and mould growing from the walls in the kitchen, bathroom, sitting room and bedrooms.

“The flat that we live in is in a bad condition, we are constantly getting sick. It’s been leaking for years now to the point where the place is damaged and 80% of the place is not functioning. I have reported it but nothing has been done. We have been crying and no one hears us.

“I am desperate for help. Scary things are growing in the flat because of water. My belongings are getting damaged, including clothes and shoes. The list is endless and it is bad. The COURIER is my last hope for my voice to be heard and get better healthcare for my children, especially my son who is asthmatic,” explained Magwaza.

On inspecting the flat, the COURIER saw the inhumane and desperate living conditions Magwaza and her two children live in.

Water leaks everywhere. Plugs and lights are not working because of this and there are about seven buckets of water in different rooms to collect the dripping water.

There is even a bucket placed in one of the wardrobes to catch dripping water.

When the COURIER contacted Ward 55 councillor, Rashieda Landis, about this matter on January 17, she asked housing manager Greg Mackett about the feedback as they discussed this matter before.

No further response from both of them was received at the time of publication.
