GALLERY: Desirae delivers love to Remar

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

With the ongoing and growing issue of gender-based violence in communities, Desirae Francisco decided to take on the task of delivering self-love packs to the women in Remar, Roseacres.

These packs included a mass of toiletries, masks, sanitiser, sweets, chocolates and an inspiring book of poetry.

“These generous donations were made possible by a few small businesses and private individuals in our community. Johnnie Gladwin and Michelle Thomas from M & J Doors generously donated the bulk of the toiletries. Bernice Abrahams from Bayete Celebration Cakes also donated toiletries and cosmetics. Lesley Thrupp from Sixth Element Advertising made a substantial donation of bags, sanitiser and cloth masks. Private donations included toothpaste, face cloths, soap, sanitary pads and roll-on.

“The cornerstone of this initiative was to inspire these women to love themselves, and local author, entrepreneur and full-time mum Lezel Simons made the most gracious donation of her first edition book of poetry, She Was A Warrior All Along. The donation was large enough for each of the women to receive a copy, as well as other women in our community who needed to be reminded of how strong they are.

“A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and volunteered. Also, to DA Ward 57 councillor Faaeza Chame who facilitated this initiative. In a world where you can be anything, be kind,” she said.
