Uber driver shoots one of three arrested in Oakdene attempted armed robbery

The suspect was shot in the leg after attempting to hijack an Uber driver.

An attempted robbery occurred by The Glen Shopping Centre this Saturday, November 27.

According to Glenvista Community Policing Forum, four suspects (one armed) attempted to rob Telkom inside the centre.

Fidelity ADT Security along with the centre security reacted swiftly and gave chase to the suspects. 

“While on the run, one of the suspects attempted to jump down between floors, The Glen security arrested him,” said Glenvista Community Policing Forum in a statement.

The statement further states that the other three suspects fled the centre, one ran away and two attempted to hijack an Uber driver.

In self-defence, the Uber driver started firing shots.

“The Uber driver was armed and fired shots in the car. One suspect was hit in the leg and Fidelity ADT Security apprehended the two suspects.”

A total of three suspects were arrested and the other suspect managed to escape.

Emergencies services and law enforcement agencies on scene were: ADT/Fidelity Glen Vehicles, National Security, Reaper Tactical, Fox Security, Glenvista CPF, Mondeor SAPS and ER24.
