Power restored in most areas following Robertsham substation fire

City Power has managed to switch on electricity to more areas that were affected by the fire at Robertsham substation.

The fire razed down two main transformers and damaged other equipment plunging most of the south into darkness.

Two transformers that survived the fire were energized earlier today after passing all the tests yesterday.

According to City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, by 13h00 one feeder board was livened up to enable a gradual distribution of electricity to the residents.

Suburbs that have been switched on include:

“The team is currently busy testing another feeder board to ensure all the outstanding suburbs including Aeroton, Ormonde Industrial, Robertsham Industrial, West Turffontein, Chrisville, are switched back on,” he said.

We are hoping to switch the outstanding suburbs by this late afternoon if all goes according to plan.

“We are also attending to the localized faults which happened during the outage, as such we urge the residents from the areas that have been restored but still do not have electricity to log a call so that technicians can be sent through to attend to it, added Mangena.

City Power will continue to update the rest of the customers throughout the day until they are restored.
