WATCH: Rand Water deals with contaminated water flowing into nature reserve

Blocked and leaking sewer manhole was the problem.

Rand Water said the problem with contaminated water into Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve was attended to.

This was after residents complained on August 6 about sewage that was flowing into the reserve.

When the COURIER asked Rand Water why was the water was contaminated, spokesperson Justice Mohale responded: “Rand Water’s environmental compliance officer and the contractor’s environmental officer investigated the matter on August 11.

“It was discovered Johannesburg Water’s sewer manhole situated behind the G20 Pipeline had blocked and was leaking.

“The matter was reported to Johannesburg Water, which confirmed the manhole was leaking into the wetland but was repaired on August 8.”
