Junior councillors clean Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve
Members of Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC) collectively conducted a clean-up on August 15.
Johannesburg junior councillors, alongside Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve Association, braved the cold as they gathered for a clean-up on August 15.
The Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC) is a NPO of young, inspired leaders in Grade 11 from different schools around Johannesburg.
Members of the JJC went out in unity to pick up litter and keep the nature reserve clean. This was aimed at maintaining the diversity of interests at the nature reserve.
Londani Ngubo, chairperson of JJC’s environmental committee, said they were thrilled to be spearheading the clean-up.
“I’m grateful that Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve Association and Tumi Shoba agreed that we could come and have a clean-up. As youth, it’s always nice for adults to see us trying to do something. I’m also grateful that so many people came out despite the weather,” she said.
Christine Loukakis of Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve Association told the RECORD/CHRONICLE/COURIER she commends the youngsters for taking care of the environment.
“I think it’s marvellous that these youngsters came out to do a clean-up of what the older generation are leaving behind. They are caring and are prepared to give up their time to clean this place, and this has to be highlighted. We need to embrace such passion from youngsters,” she said.
