We are stronger together

Today, I remembered driving to work during the hard lockdown ready to do what needs to be done to keep bringing our community the news they need through those very trying times.

This morning, another thought struck me and it was very much the same feeling when we were out and about gathering news during the hard lockdown.

There was that strange, almost weird stillness that quietly greeted you on the streets – the lack of vehicles on the roads, the closed shops and private security on the streets.

And in these unsettling times, one can only call on our residents and communities at large to think about the damage riots and looting are doing to our already struggling local economy, to understand that many jobs are hanging by the thread because of these acts and to be mindful of the lives lost.

The ongoing fight against Covid-19 has already brought a struggle upon many. Now is not the time to break and burn down, but to build and rebuild. I, therefore, call on our communities at large to do just that. To take hands and to rebuild.

#StrongerTogether

We can only be stronger if we stand together and this is the motto our security officers and law-enforcement officers have been living by these past couple of days.

And today, I need to tip my cap to our local private security companies and our CPF members who united as one working hand in hand with the SAPS and the metro police to protect and secure our streets, businesses and homes.

You are leading by example.

Your efforts do not go unnoticed. Know that you are appreciated by your community, young and old.

We as a community salute you.
