WATCH: Thirsty residents forcefully open Rand Water pump station’s gate, blockade Road

Residents of South Hills blockade South Rand Road after eight days without water.

South Rand Road has been closed off this Monday, July 12 due to protest action over South Hills water issues.

According to South Hills residents, it is day eight now without water.

It has been a nightmare week of no water in some parts of the South due to a water pump that exploded on July 4 in Rand Water, Alberton.

Residents took to the Rand Water pump station to vent out their frustration. The gate was forcefully opened as protestors made their way to the entrance of the premises to demand water.

Not getting what they hoped for, residents decided to barricade South Rand Road with rocks and burning tyres to get much-needed attention.

JMPD are at the scene monitoring the situation.

With the crowd are Ward 56 and 57 councillors, Michael Crichton and Faeeza Chame.

An update will follow as soon as more information becomes available.
