WATCH: Violent protests in Joburg, avoid these areas
Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution and use alternative routes.
Following the continuous violent protests and looting in the Johannesburg Inner City and surrounding areas.
Members of the public are warned to avoid several roads and crossing streets in Jeppestown, Benrose, Denver, Berea, Hillbrow and the Johannesburg CBD which are barricaded with burning tyres, rocks & debris.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said protesters are causing major obstruction on Lilian Ngoyi Street, Marshall Street, Commissioner Street and Rahima Moosa Street in the Johannesburg CBD.

The M2 has also been closed off in both directions between Cleveland Road and Maritzburg Street.
Officers are present to divert traffic.
Shops and businesses have been destroyed and looted in the Joburg CBD. This follows protest action around Alexandra, Sandton and surrounding areas where various shops were reported looted.
