Mayor Makhubo welcomes the appointment of the City’s board of directors

Mayor Makhubo noted that some of the City's entities have been having issues that impacted service delivery and he has no doubt that the appointed board of directors will restore the functions of the respective entities.

The executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Geoffrey Makhubo, has welcomed the appointed board of directors and chairpersons of 13 municipal entities.

The non-executive board were announced during the two days’ special general meeting of the City held on February 10 and 11.

“Municipal entities are critical vehicles for service delivery in the City and their functioning is critical in ensuring that the City achieves the objectives set out in the Growth and Development Strategy 2040 of the City,” said Makhubo.

The newly appointed chairpersons are:

• City Power – Lindiwe Maseko

“The new board members consist of a strong and unprecedented youth representation and an impressive range of skills across various disciplines that will contribute to the stability of the entities they are appointed at.

“We wish all the newly appointed board members well in their tasks and looking forward to witnessing them execute their duties with diligence and commitment,” explained Makhubo

He noted that some of the City’s entities have been having issues that impacted service delivery and he has no doubt that the appointed board of directors will restore the functions of the respective entities.

“I am confident that the newly appointed board members will provide guidance and leadership in the execution of the City’s mandate to serve our residents with honour and integrity. The appointment of the new board members will instil stakeholder confidence. We greatly look forward to their commitment to serving the residents of Johannesburg,” he said.

He also extended his word of gratitude to the outgoing board members for their sterling contribution and commitment to the City of Joburg.
