City of Joburg employee apologises, pays R500 fine for disrespecting JMPD officers

The female driver shouted and intervened with the officers' duties when she was stopped for speaking on a cellphone whilst driving.

A female driver who was seen on a video through social media shouting, disrespecting, and threatening JMPD officers on the 27th of January submitted a written apology to the MMC of Public Safety Councillor Mally Mokoena and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Acting Chief Angie Mokasi on February 4.

According to JMPD’s spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar, the female driver shouted and intervened with the officers’ duties when she was stopped for speaking on a cellphone whilst driving. She told the officers to follow her to Metro Centre, went on to tell them to hurry up, and asked who their supervisor was.

“She drove away leaving behind her driving license and the incomplete traffic fine as she failed to furnish her personal details. The behaviour of the lady was uncalled for and showed disregard for the law,” he said.

Minnaar said It was later established that the female driver was an employee of the City of Johannesburg and she was summoned to an official meeting on the 2nd of February 2021 to discuss her disorderly conduct. She was given her driving license back.

The officers managed to complete writing the traffic fine of R500 and accompanied her to pay it at JMPD Wemmer Complex Fines Department.
