Johannesburg SPCA received a call that newborn pups were spotted in an open field but that the mother was nowhere in sight.
Upon arrival, they found the pups with their eyes still closed crying for their mom. Sadly, one little puppy had already died and was lying under the rubble that surrounded them.
“As we were about to pick the puppies up, a female dog came bolting around the corner with a chain tightly around her neck. This poor dog was the mom and was desperately trying to get to her babies.
“It looked like someone had taken her and tied her up, leaving her newborn puppies discarded in an open dirty field to die. The sheer will of this mom to get to her babies was just heart-breaking.
“She was so petrified. It took us a while to calm her down and to safely reunite her with her pups. Both mom and pups are now in our care and are being closely monitored,” said Liana Marx from JSPCA.
