Netcare Mulbarton Hospital: Doctors are superheroes

“You lifted our spirits, boosted our morale and reminded us that no matter how tough this journey gets, we're all in it together." - Dr Iselle Combrink.

There is much more than meets the eye in a day’s work for doctors.

Especially if you are one of the Netcare Mulbarton Hospital doctors who will take on the second virtual race in the The Justice League™ Virtual Run Series this weekend.

And in taking on the Wonder Woman Run on August 9, they will play their part to help feed children in need.
Their contribution will assist beneficiaries of The Justice League™ such as Headstart Kids to help those less fortunate.

“We received a message from Dr Iselle Combrink that they support the Justice League Virtual Run Series, but they would also like to know if we could visit the hospital to bring light and hope,” said Ilzé Saunders Buys, former Miss Earth SA and patron of the Justice League Virtual Run Series.

“We jumped on the opportunity to support our frontline workers. They are all wonder women to SA, especially for all the work they are doing to keep us save and healthy, and more so in celebrating Women’s Month and taking part in the Wonder Woman Run on Women’s Day.

“After Dr Combrink got in touch with us, we had to say thank you for their constant selfless contribution to the people of our country by dropping off Wonder Woman kits for our next virtual run/walk,” she said.

Their visit to the hospital brought much delight to the doctors who will be running the virtual race.

Iselle sent the following message on behalf of herself, the nursing unit manager, Preshcilla Yerriah, and the Netcare Mulbarton ED nursing staff: “Thank you so much for spoiling our Covid-19 frontline superheroes with Wonder Woman race packs this morning.

“You lifted our spirits, boosted our morale and reminded us that no matter how tough this journey gets, we’re all in it together. “Wishing you all the best with your virtual run series and looking forward to the day we can all run together again. Stay safe!”

Join in the fun

You are also invited to join the doctors and thousands of people across the country to make a difference like real superheroes.

Ilzé said: “I believe we always have to do our bit and this series reminds us that we are all superheroes.

“We have to unleash the superhero within by giving back to those who need it the most, our children. The beauty is that this allows everyone to have fun and give back in these challenging times.”

The series kicked off with the Superman Run on July 19, followed by Saturday’s Wonder Woman Run.

If, for some reason you cannot take part in Saturday’s race you can still enter for Aquaman Run on September 6, Batman Run on October 4 or The Flash Run on November 8.

This is an opportunity to fight for the many underprivileged children who certainly need a helping hand in these trying times. The best of all is you will be doing what you enjoy most and receive a T-shirt and medal for your effort.

Be a hero and run or walk for a worthy cause. Your participation (running, walking, cycling) ensures contributions to beneficiaries such as Headstart Kids. The more entries, the more food packs and meals our beneficiaries can distribute.
