Hylton Marks is a social worker in private practice providing services in Alberton, Germiston, and Johannesburg.

Most of his work is with older persons and their families. “I’m the social worker in the Memory Care team which operates at Akeso in Alberton and Akeso in Parktown.

“Our team comprises psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational and physiotherapists. I’m also a member of a team of medical specialists and general practitioners in Alberton,” Hylton explained.

“Dementia is a significant challenge for those living with it as well as their families. A lot of my work is providing support to assist families manage this stressful situation. To assist families I’m starting a support group for those who have a family member with dementia.

“The group will be on Zoom and initially once a week – more often if there is a demand and also depending on what the most convenient time for those people wishing to participate in the sessions will be, the meetings can take place after hours,” he said.
