A warm welcome to new volunteer
Prior to lockdown, he spent six months in Thailand helping to rescue animals from the dog meat trade.
The Johannesburg SPCA (JSPCA) extends a warm welcome to Darren Potgieter who joined their team of volunteers.
Darren is from Germiston and will be a full-time volunteer at the local SPCA.
“I’ve always loved animals and it brings me immense joy knowing I can help, even if it’s just taking a dog for a walk,” said Darren.
“Prior to lockdown, I spent six months in Thailand volunteering at Soi Dog and also for the government helping to rescue animals from the dog meat trade. It was valuable experience and I now want to contribute at JSPCA.
“I used to work in the IT field but I’m now studying animal behaviour. I am also busy with an animal training course. “I want to work with animals as a career to create a sense of happiness and I’m really excited to be able to volunteer at JSPCA.
“On Saturday I adopted my first puppy from SPCA Johannesburg, and I named her Sadie,” Darren said with a smile.
