WATCH: Revival City College brings learners back in phases

Learners of Revival City College were welcomed with warm hands as they reopened on June 8.

Learners of Revival City College were welcomed with open arms as they reopened on June 8.

As the day kicked off, Grade R learners and their parents were invited to meet under a big tent where fun songs were sung and new rules were introduced. After receiving a welcome gift of a juice and a packet of chips, which were all sanitised, the children made their way to their classes.

They adhered to the new social distancing rules and learners from Grades Four, Five and Six were also welcomed back. Karen van den Oever, the operational director at the school, said things went smoothly and all measures put into place were adhered to.

“The little ones found it very difficult to remember that they could not hug their friends or their teachers, but soon this was the order of the day. Sanitising hands and toilet breaks were practiced, as well as eating lunch in a circle out on the field ensuring the correct social distance was adhered to,” she said.

She said the school has drawn up a comprehensive wellness programme aimed at ensuring the emotional and mental wellness of all their learners.

“We cannot ensure effective teaching and learning takes place if a child is not emotionally well. This wellness programme has been extended to include the staff in order to make sure that they too are emotionally well,” said van den Oever.

All geared up and ready to be back at school.
