Johannesburg Flying Squad weekend success: Five hijacked and stolen vehicles recovered

Johannesburg Flying Squad communications officer Raymond Sambo said investigations in all cases continue.

From May 29 to June 1, Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested 10 suspects for different crimes in different areas in Johannesburg.

They also recovered five hijacked and stolen vehicles and two unlicensed firearms, a 9mm Browning and 9mm Z88 with serial numbers filed off.

Among the 10 suspects arrested, six were for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, one for common robbery, one for house break-in, one for theft and one for reckless and negligent driving.

The three of the five vehicles recovered were hijacked – a white Toyota Avanza, white Nissan Tiida and a silver Kia Picanto. The other two vehicles – two white Ford Rangers – were stolen.

Johannesburg Flying Squad communications officer Raymond Sambo said investigations in all cases continue.

“Working with the community led to these recoveries. The SAPS appreciates the public for their contribution.
“It should also be noted that for any information regarding the vehicles, people may contact the relevant detective quoting the relevant case number.

“All suspects are aged between 25 and 33 and appeared in different magistrate’s courts,” he said.
