WATCH: NGOs partner up to feed less fortunate families

Mabaso also urged the community to comply with lockdown regulations and to always practice good hygiene.

Through the office of Member of the Mayoral Committee of Housing Mlungisi Mabaso, numerous organisations partnered to feed residents of Denver Men’s Hostel on May 7.

This was made possible with the partnership of the Fordsburg Muslim Youth Organisation (FMYO), Meal SA, Caring Women’s Forum, Robertsham Sports Academy, and Annushrah.

The team generously donated 300 bags of mealie meal, 300 packs of baked beans and 600 packs of Marie Biscuits.
The day was declared a success by organisers as they joined hands to give back to the community.

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Gauteng leader Bonginkosi Dlamini was also present to help facilitate the handover.

Yoonus Bhamjee, of Fordsburg Muslim Youth Organisation and Meal SA, said: “We have partnered simply to make a difference to this community as a non-governmental organisation initiative. At the moment, we have a million bags of mealie meal to give to the underprivileged communities.”

Bhamjee told the COURIER it was their first time visiting the Denver community and he also commended the great turnout.

Mabaso thanked the team for reaching out to the community.

“We are grateful for all the organisations that made a difference with donations. Their efforts will not go unnoticed.
“These organisations were referred to me by a close friend. I told them about this hostel, since I know the seriousness of their situation,” he said.

Mabaso also urged the community to comply with lockdown regulations and to always practise good hygiene.
