Covid-19: Feeding the South

The deliveries, part of Project Blue Relief, brought relief to some of those affected by the continued lockdown.

Over 500 food hampers were given to people in need in the south of Johannesburg after deliveries started on April 25.

The deliveries, part of Project Blue Relief, brought relief to some of those affected by the continued lockdown.

“As lockdown continues the situation for these people have become dire,” said councillor Sarah Wissler, who spearheaded the relief project.

The food parcels, which contains basic necessities, is intended to be enough to help feed a person for two weeks. Alongside the food parcels, a 1000 loaves of bread were donated all over the city.

The other councillors in the south, Rashieda Landis, Tyrell Meyers, Faeeza Chame, Michael Crichton, Peter Stewart and Stuart Marais were responsible for organising and distributing the parcels to those in need in their respective wards.

The food parcels were able to be put together thanks to the generous donations of the local resident’s ward 23. The councillors thanked all the donors who made it possible for the collection to be successful.

Wissler also extended her thanks to D&D Tactical and SOS for their assistance in distributing the parcels within ward 23.

To continue providing relief to the residents of the South who are in need, councillor Wissler has requested that residents continue contributing to this worthy cause. “I appeal to all those who have something to spare to please keep contributing to the Mulbarton Pick n Pay, as we are now out of hampers and need to stock up again.

She has also asked a special request for anyone that can assist her with collecting nappies, baby formula and adult diapers.

Anyone that is willing to contribute may contact her directly on 083 256 3453.
