Woman raped in front of her baby in a veld
A Comet woman was raped in front of her about four-month-old baby after gunmen kidnapped her and the baby from their home and took them to a nearby veld on March 31.
According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the woman and her infant were home asleep when the baby’s mom was awaken at midnight by someone shouting outside her room.
She then checked and noticed a man, described as an African male, who instructed her to open the door or else he was going to kill her.
The terrified woman cooperated and when she opened the door, two men, one wearing a mask, entered the room and demanded money. She told them she didn’t have money, and they took her cellphone. They then forced her to take her baby and go with them to a nearby veld while threatening her with a firearm.
Once they reached the veld, one of the gunmen undressed the mom and raped her repeatedly while the child was lying there. Eventually, the pair left the victims in the veld. The women screamed for help before community members rescued her after the ordeal.
Boksburg police registered a case of rape and detectives are hunting the rapists.
A concerned resident, who asked not to be named, called this publication on Thursday afternoon to report the incident. She added that many women in the area have suffered rape at the hands of unknown rapists.
“These rapes are getting out of control here in Comet. It has become one of the day-to-day terrors our community has to endure. Most of the victims could not find justice. It’s like no one cares or we are not being taken seriously. I hope your newspaper will help highlight the plight faced by our community,” said the concerned resident, a woman.
