JSPCA will remain operational during the lockdown

Found and lost services will remain functional with access restricted to one client at a time.

The Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) would like to inform the public that they will be conducting business as usual during the 21-day lockdown, but will be taking serious precautions.

The JSPCA staff members will be putting their lives on hold as they will spend the lockdown at the JSPCA property.

This will enable them to ensure the well-being of every animal in their care is well taken care of.

Public relations officer of the SPCA Liana Marx said they will make it a point to make sure animals don’t suffer during this time of distress.

“We are appealing to the public to assist us with a donation of dog or cat food as the possible influx of animals coming in on a daily base due to owners being misinformed about the virus or becoming ill,” said Marx.

She predicted that during this period many animals will be abandoned.

“We request people to think of their animals at this time and that they assist with the donation of pet food whenever they shop,” she said.

The JSPCA has put some stringent measures in place to ensure they become part of the solution. These are:

• Staff will be on duty 24 hours a day to receive any unwanted or stray animals.

• The emergency number to contact for any animal emergencies is 083 604 1172.

• No animal will be turned away, but owners are encouraged to call 011 681 3600 first.

• As a precaution, the inspectors have suspended hiring out cat traps, conducting pro-active facility inspections and the non-urgent collection of owned animals.

• Found and lost services will remain functional with access restricted to one client at a time.

• Sanitiser has been placed at every entrance to the property for people to use.

JSPCA is ready to take care of the animals during the lockdown.
