Meyersdal couple celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary

The Meyersdal couple is still happily married and they celebrated their 50th anniversary on February 7.

Sakkie Coetzee won his wife’s heart the first day they met. With his guitar in hand and the love songs he sang to Sunette, it was a done deal.

He won her heart over and they fell madly in love.

Today, 50 years later, the Meyersdal couple is still happily married and they celebrated their 50th anniversary on February 7.

The couple got engaged in Zimbabwe and on February 7, 1970, they got married in Nigel.

Sakkie and Sunette said that like many relationships, they have had challenges of their own, but have conquered them through love and respect they have for each other

Sunette still has her wedding dress which she wore on their big day, and after 50 years it still fits her perfectly.

The couple had a big cake in the form of a guitar on their wedding day, which played a huge part in their love story.

Sakkie is a musician at his church, while Sunette enjoys sewing and gardening during her leisure time.

“A recipe which has worked for us for all these years has forever been to love and give each other space,” the couple said.

The couple is blessed with three children and three grandchildren.

Christa Swart, their eldest daughter, wished them well.

“My mother still looks beautiful in the same wedding dress she wore on her big day.

“Their secret to a successful relationship has always been to maintain communication, keeping faith in God and being supportive,” she said.
