Two suspects nabbed for posing as metro police officials

Two suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and kidnapping.

Johannesburg Flying Squad officials arrested two suspects for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, hijacking and kidnapping on January 27.

From the statement received from JHB Flying Squad, the officials were patrolling when they noticed a suspicious-looking white Nissan Almera.

The vehicle is believed to have been occupied by three occupants, with two of them wearing metro police uniforms.

The vehicle registration was checked and it was discovered that they were using false number plates.

JHB Flying Squad communications officer Raymond Sambo said the suspects fled when they saw the police.

“A chase ensued where they collided with the pavement at the corner of Republic and Olifantsfontein roads in Midrand. They were subsequently placed under arrest. The third occupant indicated he was hijacked of his truck in Brits with a load of beetroot and carrots by a suspect posing as metro police,” said Sambo.

Two 9mm firearms and ammunition were recovered (a Norinco and Z88 with serial numbers filed off) and booked in at the Olifantsfontein SAPS.

The investigation of tracing the cargo and truck is ongoing. People are encouraged to report crime and any suspicious-looking persons and activities.
