Alleged drug dealer arrested, six motorists nabbed

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Drug and Speed Unit arrested seven suspects in Alberton between January 11 and 12.

The suspects were detained for possession of narcotics and excessive speeding.

During their crime prevention operation, on January 11, the EMPD members arrested a 26-year-old male. Upon his arrest, officers recovered a medium ziplock containing 4.3 grams of crystal meth valued at R1 300 and R300 cash.

The suspect was taken to Alberton police station and faces charges of possession and dealing in illicit substance.

On January 12, the Speed Enforcement Unit arrested six offenders on Swartkoppies Road between Hennie Alberts and Vermooten streets.

The highest speed record was of a 34-year-old female who clocked 113km/h on a 70km/h zone, and reported that she had been late for church.

Other five male drivers, who were between the ages of 32 and 56, were caught doing between 102km/h and 112 km/h, mentioning being late for shopping and church. The speedsters were escorted to the Brackendowns police station and charges of reckless with negligent driving were registered against them.
