MOFFAT VIEW SAPS officially opened its Victim-friendly Room (VFR) for abused victims on November 28.

There will be volunteers from Khulisa Social Solutions, who are led by social auxiliary worker Thapelo Xhego, and they will be stationed at the station from Monday to Friday (7.30am to 4.30pm). After hours there will be dedicated volunteers to help.

The VFR has a reception area where the victims will be welcomed, a shower, a passage with motivational artifacts on the wall, social auxiliary worker office and a sacred room where the victim can be accommodated comfortably.

Moffat View SAPS station commander Col Lesley Lloyd said he is happy that he can see the leaders who made all this happened.

“Since the opening of the station about seven years ago, we never had this kind of setup.

“Our charge office is very small and it is challenging for the victim to talk openly, they never had privacy.

“Now victims will be treated professionally by professionals. For the first time we will render professional services and we have the capacity to handle it.

“We will be working with other professionals for referrals and NGOs. Thank you to the office of MEC for Community Safety for this building.

“The community is welcomed to visit; however, victims will be our priority,” he said.

Thapelo said they will be reaching out to the community with their outreach programme which will include, among others, churches, schools, clinics and shopping centres, to name a few.

There were messages of support from Past Marlon Steyn and CPF chairperson Godfrey Mrobongwana.
