Southdale Pikitup Depot gets a R24 million facelift

It cost the City of Johannesburg R24-million for the refurbishment of the Southdale Depot.

The MMC for the Department of Environment and Infrastructure Service, Nico de Jager, officially reopened the state-of-the-art Southdale Pikitup Depot on November 19.

The R24-million refurbishment of the depot started in 2017.

A new fence has been installed, security has been tightened and the new main hall and offices are air-conditioned.

De Jager urged employees and management to take care of the facility and not allow any vandalism or littering.

“If employees don’t take care of this facility, it will get ruined. We did this for the employees. It’s on them now to take care of it, and even those who will be employed in the next coming years should know they should take care of the place,” said de Jager.

One of the employees, Lerato Ndweni, said workers are happy to see such improvement in the workplace.

“Now, we will work with freedom and excitement. I’m glad I witnessed the revamp of the depot,” said Ndweni.
