QOPHELO ‘Mally Phoenix’ Mkhize is a 21-year-old rap artist/producer from Meredale.

He started writing music when he was in Grade Four and he wasn’t really confident in himself.

However, he said, listening to Lil Wayne, Drake and AKA shaped his career and their music inspired what he’s becoming today as an artist.

Mkhize’s mother started taking his passion for music seriously after seeing him at a talent show held during his high school days at Marist Brothers, where he was part of an award-winning collaboration track.

Mkhize recently released three singles called Fell in love, Girls and Destination.

These three singles are mainly inspired by his relationship experiences.

Fell in love is basically a song about how he broke up with his girlfriend and Destination is all about him finding fresh love and how he found his new girlfriend.

He told the COURIER he recently hit the 200 plays mark on his SoundCloud page for his latest single Destination released one month ago.

QOPHELO ‘Mally Phoenix’ Mkhize wants more gigs to put his music out there.

“I express my thoughts through the pen. I love music with all my heart. I could’ve been a footballer, but I went for music. In the next five years I want to see myself travelling around the world getting gigs,’’ said Mkhize.

Besides his music, he is studying sound engineering as he is now producing his own music and looking forward to improving as a solo artist.

He is also passionate about business and he’d like to see himself own a label company someday.
