Camera thief sentenced to five years in prison

Loose suspect sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment.

A MAN who stole a camera has been sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment on October 31.

The sentence follows after a victim saw a man she had opened a case against, roaming around the streets of Ridgeway on November 7, 2017.

According to Booysens SAPS communications officer, Capt Lorraine van Emmerik, the victim was at her house when she saw the man.

“She asked the man what he was doing and he replied he was getting clothes. She asked him where the camera was and he told her that he sold it,” said van Emmerik.

The victim alerted SAPS and he was then arrested. Sgt Sylvia Maliwa is investigating the case and once all the necessary information requested by the court was available, the docket was placed on the roll and the trial took place.

Booysens SAPS management applauds all relevant personnel who worked hard in solving the case, more especially Maliwa.
