Johannesburg Flying Squad weekend success

FROM October 4 to 7, Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested 11 suspects for different crimes in different areas in Johannesburg and recovered two firearms and ammunition, as well as five stolen and hijacked vehicles.

Among the 11 suspects arrested are two for drunken driving, one for rape, two for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one for theft common, two for possession of a stolen vehicle, two for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and one for possession of drugs.

In further policing, on October 5, members of Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions, attempted murder and armed robbery.

Members were on their way to work when they witnessed a hijacking in progress of a green Polo at the corner of London Road and Linen Street, Alexandra.

They immediately came under fire and they retaliated, and managed to apprehend both suspects and recovered two unlicensed firearms, a 9mm Z88 and 9mm Walter with ammunition. One was taken to the nearest hospital with serious injuries under police guards and another was detained at Alexander SAPS.

Johannesburg Flying Squad communications officer senior personal officer Raymond Sambo said investigation continues in all cases.

“Working together with the community led to these recoveries.

“SAPS appreciate the public for their contribution. It should also be noted that if you have any information regarding the vehicles, you may contact the relevant detective quoting the relevant case number.

“All 11 suspects, aged between 22 and 38, will be appearing soon in different magistrate’s courts facing charges of theft common, possession of stolen vehicles, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, drunken driving and possession of drugs,” he said.
