Finally doing what she loves

She left her job to bake cakes.

CARLETTE Oswin used to work as a marketing strategist in Johannesburg before realising her dream.

The 36-year-old from The Hill bakes cakes for a living and hopes to own one of the biggest cake companies in South Africa one day.

Working a nine-to-five corporate job wasn’t for her. All she ever desired, from childhood, was to bake cakes.

She said her grandmother inspired her love for baking.

“Every time when I’m baking I’m all smiles and the joy I get when baking is amazing and wonderful. If it wasn’t for baking cakes, I could still have been working office hours, which isn’t my calling,” said Carlette.

Carlette said one day when she has children she will bake for them every week.

“I know once I have children they will love my cakes because everyone who eats my cakes loves them. I also bake for orphanages and homeless people as an initiative of giving back to the community,” said Carlette.

The only challenges she comes across is when there is load-shedding.

“I really do encourage people to do what they love,” she said.
