Young tech wiz builds Diversity High School website

SIMPHIWE Radebe from Elandspark is gifted when it comes to websites and apps.

The 16-year-old learner at Diversity High School in South Hills recently built the school’s website after teaching himself how to do so.

Speaking to the COURIER, he said he had dreamt of building the school’s website since Grade Eight but had a lot to learn first.

He approached the principal, Hosea Maboya, with his plans and was told to draft a proposal.

“After a few months, the principal called me and said I can go on with my project. I was given pictures of the school and a write-up of the history of the school, all of which I posted on the website.

“This is the second website I have created and I hope to continue doing more websites,” he said.

He’s in Grade 11 and has already started a business, Brain Cap Developers, which he formed with his peers Thapelo Rammala, Hamsley Ndlovu, and Tebogo Ndabazizi.

Simphiwe’s business involves creating new gaming apps for youngsters.

Maboya said what Simphiwe has achieved is amazing and the school is proud of him.

“When he approached me I never thought he would something like this. I’m pleased and happy with his work. Most parents like to keep tabs on what’s going on in the schools and they like viewing these things on the website. We as the school thought we are in the South and we have challenges in terms of drugs in our neighbourhood, but we realised we have a lot to do as a school in the area. So the website will empower lots of youngsters,” said Maboya.

The school is calling upon learners, the community and educators to submit photographs that can be posted on the website, for example athletics and other events.
