Cop robbed of his service firearm in Kenilworth, seven suspects arrested

ON September 7 at about 12.30pm, Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested seven suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and armed robbery in Kenilworth.

According to reports, the police officers received a tip-off about suspects who robbed and disarmed a police officer from Booysens SAPS on September 6.

The members followed leads and recovered the police officer’s service pistol at a house in Leo Street, Kenilworth.

Among the seven suspects, one suspect was detained at Booysens SAPS for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and armed robbery, and the other suspects were detained at Moffat View SAPS for armed robbery.

Johannesburg Flying Squad communications officer senior personal officer Raymond Sambo said investigation continues.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue to collaborate with police by reporting crime and any suspicious people and activities. Information may be given anonymously by phoning the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or calling their nearest police station.
