THE Strong Women of the South Awards was held at Thaba Eco Hotel on August 15, with SAPS female members, CPF members, local businesses, businesswomen as well as women who are outstanding within their community, receiving awards.

Organised by Michelle Pelser from CPF Monder SAPS, with assistance from Const Elizabeth Mnguni, the event was enjoyed by all in attendance. Charlene Dearling from Impact Foundation was the MC.

“This past year has been a challenging one for many of us, but you are being recognised today for your exceptional work throughout the year. I would like each and every one of you to know how you are appreciated for every single thing you do,” Michelle said.

The Kraal Restaurant at Thaba Eco Hotel was beautifully decorated with delicious food being served and wonderful goodie bags for each woman in attendance.

A beautiful cake was made by Lisa Borril, which was enjoyed with tea and coffee after the awards had been handed out.

Entertainment was provided by Thaba Eco Hotel in the form of Dial a Team Build, who kept the women on their toes with team building games. Prizes were handed out to the winning teams.

Guest speaker Karen Landi spoke about how on September 27, 2018, her life changed when she was brutally attacked in Walkerville by three men.

“At times while they were beating me I never thought I would survive, but I did and here I am to tell the story today.”

Her ordeal touched the women as they listened in horror to what she experienced.

The awards were handed out by Michelle and Lt Col Janet Madaray from Mondeor Police Station.

“Congratulations to you all. You are each special in your own way,” they added.
