What do you think about the demerit system?

Demerit system excites members of the public.

THE implementation of the Aarto demerit system which penalises motorists for breaking rules was announced in the past week. The COURIER asked residents how they feel about this.

CHRISTOPHER REDGARD: “It’s a good thing to have because some motorists drive as if they own the roads. If a motorist is penalised it will be a lesson to him or her to never disrespect the law. This will help our upcoming motorists to respect the roads.”
ANDILE KHOZA: “I don’t understand this system but at least its mandate is to penalise those who don’t respect the law. People need to be taught about this system because most people don’t know about it. In closing, I think in the next coming months, accidents won’t be as many as they are today.”
NATALIA BEDDERSON: “This system will prevent road accidents. This is what we need in this country. I’m fully behind this system. I hope it lasts forever just for the safety of our people out there.”
FAZILE MAGEGENENE: “It’s good if they will suspend your licence if you miss a stop-sign and jump robots. This will help us motorists to avoid accidents and help us as South Africans to follow the rules because we don’t follow them. This is what we need as motorists.”
