Frances Vorwerg School seeks donations

School appeals to members of the public to assist with much-needed donation.

FRANCES Vorwerg School is in dire need of donations as the premises is full of potholes.

The Haddon-based school is known for catering to learners with cerebral palsy and have specific learning challenges.

About 90 percent of the learners in the school are wheelchair-bound, and with the potholes around the school, it’s impossible for them to move around freely.

Learners struggle to get to their respective classes as there is a large pothole at the main entrance.

The school has been struggling with this for more than five years.

Frances Vorwerg School needs donations in order to fill up all the potholes in their school.

One of the teachers, Anandi Spies, said: “When a child is dropped off for school or collected from school, it is impossible for the child to roll the wheelchair on the eroded surface. The wheels of the wheelchairs get damaged and stuck in the damaged surface and huge potholes.”

The school will need about R450 000 to fix the problems in the parking area.

The school’s principal, Qiniso Mthimkhulu, said all they need is to get donations in order for the learners to have a safe environment to study in.

“I started here in 2016, and the problem was already here. This situation escalated this year as more of the children are in wheelchairs and they need to move around.

“Any kind of donation will go a long way. I urge members of the public and businesses to help us in this regard,” said Mthimkhulu.
