U-Dream project directors killed in Tanzania plane crash

TWO U-Dream project directors, Werner Froneman and Des Werner, died on August 3 when their plane crashed in Tanzania shortly after it took off.

Des was the father of Megan Werner, one of the teens who piloted the U-Dream project.

In 2018, U-Dream Global selected 20 inexperienced teenagers from various backgrounds across South Africa and provided them with hands-on experience in engineering and building an aircraft.

The teens assembled a Sling-4 aircraft from start to finish within three weeks, under the guidance and supervision of a group of senior engineers in a highly controlled environment.

The plane’s maiden flight was realised at Tedderfield Airpark in Eikenhof on June 8.

The Southern COURIER sends condolences to the Werner and Froneman families and everyone who have been involved in this milestone project.
