WATCH: Believers Care Society supports community on Mandela Day

Centre manager Alexander Iheme said Mandela Day is a very special day for them, it is a day to do good for everyone.

BELIEVERS Care Society (BCS) in Turffontein wants a community that can sustain itself; hence, on Mandela Day they didn’t only give food parcels to the community, they also empowered them with job opportunity skills.

This youth skills development centre was a centre of attraction on July 18 as scores of community members gathered to receive food parcels, information about job skills, crime prevention information, sport, arts and culture, voluntary HIV/Aids testing and counselling, to name a few.

Centre manager Alexander Iheme said Mandela Day is a very special day for them, it is a day to do good for everyone.

The community gathered in numbers at Believers Care Society on Mandela Day.

“About 250 households collected food parcels. We don’t just give people food, we want to use this as a support platform in alleviation of poverty. Sustainability is very important.

“That is why we have set up our tables for the community to find out what type of free training we can offer them so they can be empowered economically to get employment.

“We also have a table where people can do voluntary HIV/Aids testing because it is important to know your status; hence, we know the plight we are facing in this country. We will then refer them to clinics for further assistance.

“Our our 150 students are on the streets cleaning them and the parks in our area. We gave them dignity packs once they were done,” explained Iheme.
