Father’s Day gift ideas

The perfect gift for the perfect dad.

Father’s Day gift ideas

WITH Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16, it’s time to start thinking about the perfect gift for the perfect dad. Father’s Day is a great opportunity to let your dad know how special he is and what he means to you.

Whether you are looking for a lovely gift to buy or even something home-made, we’ve come up with a list of great ideas.

All scrubbed up

His favourite cologne, shaving kit, a delicious-smelling aftershave balm or shower gel is a great way of making your dad feel and smell great. Depending on your budget, you can go big or small with gift sets or items sold separately. A toiletry bag is a great addition for dads who travel a lot.

Dad’s secret stash

Every dad needs a secret stash of delicious treats, his favourites, picked out for him specifically. Nuts, chocolates, sweets, fudge, dried fruit, coffee, a fancy cigar, biltong and dry wors are just a few ideas. You can wrap them up nicely and add a bottle of his favourite wine, whisky or brandy, depending on your budget.

All dressed – or snuggled up

A cosy, plush gown is a great idea for those cold winter evenings and early mornings. A pair of fluffy slippers, some extra-warm socks or even a new set of winter pyjamas is a sure way to make your dad feel the warmth of your love. A snazzy jersey or work shirt is another way to make your dad feel special and he’ll be sure to think of you every time he wears them.

The little things

For a dad who likes to dress up a bit, more ties or cufflinks are another special gift idea and a wonderful way to round off a formal outfit. Novelty socks, a special scarf, a belt or nice warm gloves are other examples of gifts ideas, especially if you’re on a bit of a budget. For the dad who loves to write you can buy a leather-bound journal and a special pen. Similarly for the book or music lover, a voucher from a music or book store goes a long way and he can choose exactly what he likes.

For the braai-lover

For the dad who loves to braai you simply can’t go wrong with a pair of leather braai gloves, a head torch and some practical braai implements. Up his grill game using everyday spices you already have in your pantry and make your own steak seasoning. Give it to him in a sealed container for his next round of marinated steaks.

Home-made

There’s nothing like a gift with a personal touch to let your dad know the love, time and effort you invested in making him feel special. These gift ideas come in many forms.

Lego memories jar: write his favourite things on each Lego piece, then pick them out of a Mason jar when you need a fun weekend activity. For an extra-special touch, stack them on top of one another to represent the memories “built”.

Another fun idea is to bake him some delicious cookies or brownies. Get the kids involved to make him a personalised Father’s Day card, painting or drawing.

Gift cards

If you are completely stumped a gift card is always a great option. Make it special by purchasing a Father’s Day card and adding a small chocolate.
