Johannesburg South Garden Club holds AGM

The committee was re-elected to stand for another year, with tea being served just after.

JOHANNESBURG South Garden Club held it’s AGM on May 28 at The Geelhout Room, Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre, and all in all it was a good annual general meeting.

Dennis Boddington, chairperson, opened the meeting, acknowledging all the members for their support and said to this day he still misses Robbie Winter, a previous chairperson and member of the garden club, who died last year.

Dennis looked back on previous meetings over the past year and gave a summary of the talks which had been given. “I think we’ve had some great speakers and feedback from the members, they’ve enjoyed the talks,” added Dennis.

Special thanks were given to the committee, Dennis’ wife, Jenny, who assists him with organising of the meetings and teas, Jean Stothart (vice-chairperson), Denise Haslecker (treasurer) and Brian Hovelmeier (secretary).

Brian gave the treasurers report.

“Denise does all the work and I just lodge everything into the monthly figures,” he laughed. “We have a healthy balance and we’ve decided to keep the subs and admission the same as last year,” he added.

Acknowledgements were given to Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre for their generosity with the venue and to Julie Maule (news editor of Comaro CHRONICLE) for attending most meetings and giving excellent coverage.

“We’ve definitely upped our members through the newspaper articles,” added Dennis.

The committee was re-elected to stand for another year, with tea being served just after.

The next meeting will take place on June 25 at The Geelhout Room at 10am. Guest speaker Melanie Walker (presenter of Gardening 101 on DStv’s Home Channel) will chat about gardening trends for a new age. Visitors are welcome and the club is looking for new members to join.
