TAKE NOTE: Traffic lights being erected at the following intersections

After 600 metres of copper cable was stolen from the traffic light poles at the intersections of Swartkoppies Road and Kliprivier Drive and Bellairs Avenue and Kliprivier Drive.

AFTER 600 metres of copper cable was stolen from the traffic light poles at the intersections of Swartkoppies Road and Kliprivier Drive and Bellairs Avenue and Kliprivier Drive, over a week ago, a work team is out erecting new traffic light poles at both intersections.

According to Ward 23 councillor, Sarah Wissler, the new traffic light poles should be fully operational by Friday, May 24. “We are hoping to have the traffic lights working by Friday. In the meantime, I’ve organised pointsmen to be at these intersections at peak hour traffic times. If motorists can please approach the intersections cautiously and when pointsmen aren’t there, adhere to traffic road rules and treat these intersections as four-way stops,” said Wissler

On Sunday morning, May 19, an intelligence-driven operation by Glenvista CPF resulted in four suspects being arrested in possession of suspected stolen copper and handed to SAPS.

“We believe the arrested individuals may be linked to those thefts at the intersections along Kliprivier Drive and investigations will continue.

“I congratulate all our CPF operatives involved in developing the crime intelligence that led to these arrests and all those that participated in the operation this morning with a special word of recognition to BS12 who was primarily responsible for developing the Intel. We also thank our partners Fox security, D&D and EMPD that offered backup in the arrest. The partnership between community and SAPS strikes another blow against crime,” added Mike Fontes (GV3) Mondeor Sector 1 CPF head.
