WATCH: Hailstorm leaves Joburg South homeowners with thousands worth of damages

This follows the hailstorms that ripped through parts of Brackendowns, Alberton and surrounding areas that occurred on April 20 and 21.

Homeowners in Brackenhurst Renonkel street are faced with thousands of rands worth of damages and cleaning up to do.

This follows the hailstorms that ripped through parts of Brackendowns, Alberton and surrounding areas that occurred on April 20 and 21.

The hailstorm filled drains and proceeded to the complex, forcefully making its way to the houses. The residents were devastated as the flooding damaged cars, electronic devices and this led to the death of two dogs.

On the day Alberton AfriForum, First Help, and other emergency companies came through to offer their help.

A homeowner whose furniture was damaged told the RECORD that she had lost everything due to the hailstorm.

“I have lost everything due to this, I will go deep in my pockets as a result to this hailstorm. Everything is just ruined, I hardly enjoyed my Easter weekend. I now have to buy new furniture as all my furniture floated in water,” she said.

Yolande Riffel, also a resident at the complex extended her gratitude for the support they received from the community: “Although I have lots of mopping up to do I am grateful to the community who came to help. Lots of community residents offered assistance and refreshments”

Reaction members from AfriForum Alberton assisted with the removal of hail from the residents’ roof to prevent any further damages.

A lady from Mayberry Park, Debbie Jason also shared her experience: “I have  never experienced a storm like this in my 20 years of being a house owner. My son and I were scared as the storm then hit the lounge area, we just had to wait until the next morning to put extra tiles on the roof as my house has just been repaired. I don’t know what or how to describe the lappa and the pool it was hectic on the second storm.”

Due to the pressure of the hailstorm, it broke this wall- damaging cars.
