Eikenhof Women’s Institute have AGM

The new committee was voted in and the 2018 AGM was closed. The next meeting will be held on May 18, a week later than usual because of elections.

ANOTHER year and Eikenhof Women’s Institute (WI) held their AGM on April 10 in the church hall of St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Suideroord.

The meeting began with the lighting of the memorial candle in memory of past members of the WI group and a few moments silence from the ladies.

Pat Leech (outgoing treasurer, due to her recent move to the north) gave the 2018/2019 financial statement and then Joy Boswell (president of Eikenhof WI) gave her report.

“We’ve enjoyed a year of monthly meetings with some guest speakers, outings and general meetings here in the church hall,” said Joy.

“The May 2018 meeting we had guest speaker Manesh Nagar, who explained how eWallet works. In June Professor John Ledger gave us interesting information on solar power and in July Linda Payne was the guest speaker.

“In August, Claire Boswell spoke to us about life as a professional all-round entertainer and September we held our International Day with the history of the WI with photographs and articles. At our October meeting, Linda Goodenough was our guest speaker, talking about what to do and not to do at a crime scene.

“November we held our Show Day with lots of entries and the standard was high. December we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas meeting at Del Forno in Glenanda with the owner, Mr G, and his staff going out of their way to spoil us and it was a great way to end off our year.

“January we held a relaxed meeting with a beetle drive and in February we enjoyed an interesting meeting on recycling and we held our first mini-show with excellent support from members. In March we celebrated our 67th birthday and once again went out for breakfast to Del Forno and enjoyed a wonderful time with cakes given by Mr G,” Joy said.

She went on to thank all the members and her committee for their attendance of meetings and support and to all those who supply refreshments for each meeting.

“Thanks to my committee for supplying eats for our meetings and to those who organise meetings. To my vice-president, Julie Board, who is always on hand, my huge thanks.”

The new committee was voted in and the 2018 AGM was closed. The next meeting will be held on May 18, a week later than usual because of elections.
