Two sentenced to 15 and 20 years following robberies in Aeroton and Forest Hill

Two suspects sent to prison after being charged with house robbery and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

CONSTABLE Olebogeng Moshweu’s hard work paid dividends with two robbers getting sentences of 15 and 20 years’ direct imprisonment in Booysens Magistrate’s Court, following robberies in Aeroton and Forest Hill respectively.

The first robber’s imprisonment came after he attacked a victim with a screwdriver on February 23, 2018.

According to Booysens SAPS, the victim was coming from work in the company of her colleague. While walking, they spotted an unknown man standing suspiciously beside a pavement. The man walked towards them pretending to answer his phone.

When they realised he was up to something, they tried to flee, but the man caught up with them and grabbed the victim’s handbag and hit her with it.

The victim fell to the ground and, while on the ground, he stabbed her with a screwdriver and ran away. While the robber was on the run, he was knocked over by a vehicle and was then rushed to hospital, where the SAPS apprehended him.

Moshweu received the docket to investigate and followed up with all the relevant information which led to the robber’s sentencing.

In a separate case, a man committed a house robbery and stabbed the victim in Forest Hill on April 4, 2018.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Lorraine van Emmerik said while the victim was sleeping in his room, he was woken by the movements of an unknown man with a knife, who was attempting robbery.

“The suspect demanded money and a cellphone from the victim. After the victim gave in, the suspect stabbed him and ran away. However, the victim was able to chase after the suspect and apprehend him,” said van Emmerik.

SAPS was called by the victim. Moshweu again received the docket for investigation and obtained all the relevant information.

The docket was placed on the roll and the court proceeding began, which resulted in the sentencing of the suspect.
