Late online applications for Grade One and Eight for 2019

Apply online from November 28 at 9am to January 7 next year.

PARENTS who have not yet applied for admission of their children who will be going to Grade One and/or Grade Eight in the 2019 academic year, are urged to apply online from November 28 at 9am to January 7 next year.

They must log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to apply online for Grade One and Eight.

Late applications are limited to schools that are not full. It is advisable for parents to be careful when selecting their schools. Upon completion of the application, documents must be submitted to the school immediately and as such, placements will only be confirmed once the required documents are submitted within seven days.

During the December recess, from December 12 to January 7 next year, the Online Application System will be live and operating automatically. No officials will be available at the back end to assist with applications; however, online video tutorials and the step-by-step guide are available on the admissions site to remind parents how to apply.

It is paramount to note that, as soon as documents are submitted and the system updates accordingly; a parent will receive an SMS specifying the school where the child is placed. No appeals will be allowed during the late application process.

Applicants who applied during the Application Period (April 16 to May 28) will not be able to apply for late applications.

Despite numerous attempts to interact with parents who did not submit documents, it is concerning that about 17 445 have still not submitted their documents and remain unplaced.

To date, 944 of 2013 schools with Grade One and Eight entry grades across the 15 districts in the province have reached capacity and are not available for late applications.

Exactly 1069 of 2013 schools with available space across the province will be open for late applications. The list of schools with available space will be published on the GDE website for parents to peruse.

For further queries, contact the GDE call centre number is 0800 000 789. Alternatively, kindly forward an email to Admissions. Hotline @gauteng.gov.za
